I love Corvettes. If I see a mid engined Corvette, I will be very disappointed.

The issue isn't that GM shouldn't have a mid-engined super car, it is that it shouldn't be called a corvette. Also, why the fuck would they put circular tail lights on the render, as if that would happen?
It's just click-bait that comes around every year and won't actually happen. It's pretty annoying, really.
Again, I wouldn't doubt or mind a mid-engined car from Chevy, but calling it a Corvette would just be a misnomer. Could you imagine a mid-engined Viper? How about a front engined 911?
No, you just make a new model called the 918, or Carrera GT. If you're Mopar, you just make a 458 Italia.

GM could always return to its roots for a Corvette sister car with engine in back. Call it the Corvair...

Yeah. I mean, their sedans kinda suck TBH. The equinox is pretty much their only decent car, but it will be aging soon. I'm excluding trucks from this, but malibu and impala I'm not a huge fan of and can't imagine buying. Spark, volt, Cruze are all meh too. Cruze was OK when it came out, and now has just been aging as well.

Like I said in the article, that render is horrendous. Even if the concept of a mid-rear-engine Corvette wasn't repulsive (it is), that render would still be garbage.
It's like a super-shitty kit GT-R on a Stingray. The technical quality of the model is also shit, look at those edges!

I know. It's just sad how little effort they even put into the old as hell click-bait of a mid engine corvette.
They need to hire Phenotyp or something, that dude can draw.

Yeah he friggin' can, though what he'd charge to do the job is probably far more than C&D is willing to pay (and deservedly so), which is why we get trash like the above.
But seriously, let the idea of a MR Corvette die. Please.

Yeah. Equinox is getting old, but it's fairly competitive. Space, interior, fuel economy, are all pretty decent. And price.
Though I still probably wouldn't choose it, as an enthusiast.

Well, yeah, plenty of people still buy it. Its a good car for the market in which it is placed in. The 'Vette and the Impala are really the only Chevy products I like currently, since I absolutely HATE the new taillights they put on the Camaro.

I actually like the Camaro lol. And it is still a good performance vehicle, which I can respect. I wouldn't buy one though.
I really hope Chevy ups their sedan game. A proper GTI/FoST fighter would be great. In fact, I would seriously think buying one if they made one. The Sonic RS isn't anywhere near what I'd be looking for :(
If I had something compelling enough to buy right this minute, I wouldn't mind selling my car and can swing a new hot hatch.
But alas, I'd rather just save atm because nothing is really calling my name enough.

I think a mid-engine ZR-1 would be awesome, as long as we also get a front-engine base model and Z06.

As a performance bargain, I think it is great. The looks just kill it for me, though. Every time I see those new taillights on the road, I want to bleach my eyes out. Its just terrible.
Chevy really should up their game and get an ST fighter. Ford is stealing a lot of that market from them, for good reason. I don't hate the Sonic RS, but, as you said, its just not enough.

I remember reading something years ago that GM was considering making a sub brand using the Corvette name as the brand name. This could be the beginning Corvette Zora
Mid-engine halo car. The base model would have a name, then all of the other other models would keep their names. It could be happening.

Yeah, I have heard about that. IDK That using the corvette name would be the way to do it in my head, I think it would demean the branding.
Rather, it would make sense to name the sub-brand Zora or something, and have other completely new model names.

Yeah, hopefully the next generation of GM fleet will have a bit more flair. We'll have to see, but they HAVE to recognize the market they are missing on because of their styling alone. Add in what you mentioned with the ST market (which I believe hot hatches are quite the expanding market in the US at least), and you get a huge difference.
I honestly don't know how GM still sells so many cars with things like the Malibu.

It would really be nice. I mean, they're losing tons of sales to Ford in the hatchback market and just about everything else. If they don't renovate their lineup, they're going to start losing sales to Chrysler products as well. As you said, they especially need to renovate the hatchback lineup. I agree, the hot hatch market is booming right now in the U.S.
I'm really not sure. Most likely brand loyalty. I mean, my family is a GM family through and through, but we all think the Chevy lineup is pretty pathetic (with the exception of the 'Vette).
Kailand09
> Tuned-Port-Injected-Rage
09/11/2014 at 17:38 | 1 |
Yeah, brand loyalty could be it. Unfortunately the same reason Toyota still sells cars...
Even if GM made a non-hot hatch like the base Focus... I almost NEVER see focus sedans, but I see a shit ton of focus hatches. They are, plain and simple, one of the best vehicles in the segment right now. And they are getting refreshed enough to keep the looks department in check.
Hate to say it, as I'm a GM fan, but Ford is kicking ass right now.
Tuned-Port-Injected-Rage

Yeah, its the same with basically any make.
I genuinely like the Focus. Ford is doing immensely well with that. It looks nice for a hatchback, and is offered in whatever kind of variation you want. If I were in the market, the Focus would be my second choice for a hatchback. Right behind the Golf.
Compared to GM in a lot of segments, they are doing quite well. I still don't like a lot of Fords lineup, but most consumers do. I still hate what they've done with the Mustang (I know, its not a popular opinion). Also, in my opinion, they've kind of worn out the Fusion grille. It looked nice on the Fusion, but now that they're putting it on everything, I really don't like it. Honestly, I like the Focus and the FiST. That's about it. I personally think Chrysler products are kicking ass right now. All of their products look great, and can be optioned to fit anyone's needs.

Agreed on most of your opinions there. The only thing I didn't like about the FoST was seating, the positioning seemed off to me but I bet I'd adjust. I think I'd also pick the GTI over the FoST and get the APR tune.
I'm not sure about Chrysler much, I'll have to update my knowledge there I guess. Though all their performance stuff is right on IMO.
Tuned-Port-Injected-Rage

09/11/2014 at 20:19 | 1 |
The FoST seating did seem a little odd. I've never been in one, but it always looked a little weird from pictures I've seen. I'd drive the heck out of a GTI. I love those things.
They look genuinely good. They've renovated just about everything, so all of their lineup looks pretty good. And, as you said, their performance is also quite good.

Yeah, I love the GTI too. There's a bit to be desired IMO in the power department, so I feel like I'd have to budget in an APR stage I tune. Tough to say really.
The 200 and 300 both seem pretty damn nice. I do like the Jeep brand atm as well, their GC is super nice in upper trims.
Dodge, on the other hand... Avenger? Ick. The Dart? It looks nice and has cool colors... that's about it. The rest, IMO, is disappointing. Durango seems pretty cool, but I wasn't too impressed with the interior packaging (in terms of layout, roominess, etc).
As you can tell, I recently re-visited their product hahaha. In all, I think they are in the right direction. Just need to fix some of their Dodge products.

I would agree on that. An APR tune would be perfect for it. I think that it would be fine without that, but it would definitely reap the benefits of the tune if it was granted it. I don't know, ever since my dad bought his '07 Rabbit, I've loved every Golf/Rabbit, so I'm a bit biased.
I think the 200 and 300 are fantastic right now. Both are great cars for the money, especially the 300. Jeep is doing pretty well right now, though I'm not a huge fan of the soon-to-come Renegade. I think it looks a bit ridiculous. The Grand Cherokee is great though. I don't know, I think Dodge has plenty of good options. The Avenger is complete shit, and I forgot they even still produced it. I don't hate the Dart, but it is definitely overhyped. The rest seems great to me, though. Having personally been in a Durango, I thought it was a great car. The Charger is a great value right now, and looks pretty good. The Challenger is the real reason I love what Dodge is doing now, though. I don't think they could have made that car much better than they did.

The Duragno definitely is nice, but I don't think I could choose it over the GC. Not to mention the third row access is absurd. It's nice, but just doesn't sit right with me.
Challenger and Charger are definitely highs, and the challenger has been such a nice looking car, not to mention power train. I think the V6 leaves some to be desired, and handling is pretty meh, but in that car who cares. I hear it could be a bit smoother riding too, which for that I think the demographic may prefer. Maybe a different suspension option?
Also yes, APR tune is even supposed to increase mileage. Who the hell wouldn't do it!? Not to mention all the goodies you get along with it, such as their app.

Oh, I agree. I like the GC a lot more. For its options and price, though, it just seems like a good value. You are right on the third row access, though. Its pretty ridiculous.
The Challenger is, by far, my favorite of the modern muscle cars right now. It looks great, has great options, and is priced excellently. I personally don't really see the point of a V6 in a Challenger, but I guess if that's what people want, so be it. For me, I wouldn't ever buy that car for its handling capabilities, so that doesn't really bother me too much. Different suspension options would be nice, but it is a sporty car, so people should know what they are buying.
That is very impressive that it also increases gas mileage, since I figured that it was just a power increase. I definitely agree, you would be insane not to get that.

True on the challenger I guess. V6 subsidizes the upper models somewhat though.
In terms of sporty car, while true, I think a lot of people buy it as a powerful cruiser. I'm not sure how you cater that though.

The V6 definitely subsidizes the higher models, for sure. And I would agree that most buy it as a cruiser. Its the same with all the other modern muscle cars on the market. I'm just saying that it has sporting potential.
